WORLD'S FIRST
EBAY ITEM EVER SOLD
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST
STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
What was the world's first eBay item ever sold?
Would you believe eBay turned 10
in 2005, it's true.
eBay
was created in September 1995, by Pierre Omidyar, originally called
AuctionWeb.
The name
‘eBay’ comes from the domain Pierre used for his site. The company name was Echo
Bay, and the ‘eBay AuctionWeb’ was originally just one part of Echo Bay’s
website at ebay.com.
Now
for the first item ever sold on eBay, well, it was Pierre's, he managed to sell
his broken laser pointer for $14.00.
In 1997 Pierre changed the company name to eBay. In
this year eBay also sold it's millionth item, a toy version of Big Bird
from Sesame Street.
Here's another bit of trivia, Pierre has a
blog, but it hasn't been updated since 2004.
